On May 12, Alfredo Pacheco Torralba, PhD in Psychology and Chief of the Valencia Local Police, gave a lecture entitled “Intervention in Emergencies due to Suicidal Crises” in the auditorium of the Faculty of Psychology and Speech Therapy at the University of Valencia. The lecture was organized in collaboration with the Master’s Degree in Migration of the University of Valencia.
The lecture, which was included in the training of the association’s volunteers, was aimed at raising awareness of the serious public health problem that suicide represents and the importance of being able to intervene appropriately in this context. It was proposed for more humanistic interventions to be developed especially by emergency psychologists or other intervening professionals who may encounter this type of situation unexpectedly.
In addition the emotional impact and other negative consequences, such as anxiety that exposure to this type of situation can cause, were analyzed, and it was recommended the implementation of support programs for the professionals involved, as well as focusing more on teamwork and the development of emotional skills.
