Program for the psychological support for victims of the DANA storm “GERMANOR”

Proposed by: Platform for psychological support in disasters GERMANOR

GOALS

To offer psychosocial support to the municipalities and commonwaelths affected by the DANA storm on October 29, 2024, through our volunteering work.

We are particularly concerned about the medium- and long-term consequences regarding the future psychological and emotional development of those who have been affected by the DANA disaster.

METHOD

Volunteers would be trained and prepared in advance by professors from the Master’s Degree in Migration (MUM by its initials in Spanish) and by psychologists who have been working with refugees for a long time.

To this end, interdisciplinary humanitarian groups (HG) will be created with the following tasks:

  1. To reduce as much as possible the psychological suffering of the most vulnerable populations by providing counseling, support, and stress coping techniques through culture, sports, and leisure time activities.
  2. To offer information, if necessary, and help those who have been affected to access institutional services and assistance.
  3. To identify and detect future mental health issues in the medium and long term. To asess the severity of the condition and refer it to professionals.
  4. To design activities to ensure the mental health of the affected population.
  5. To provide strategies and support for humanitarian workers and volunteers.

INTERVENTION

  1. A schedule of activities is drawn up (with a proposed number of volunteers per day for each activity) and delivered to local authorities and the mayor’s office of the affected town.
  2. The activities are monitored through meetings.
  3. The possible referral of clinical cases to professionals is coordinated.
